Sustainable Landscaping for a Healthy Home and Planet!

Our Story

Working as a landscaper in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, I noticed an unmet need for sustainable landcare services in the region. I believe in empowering homeowners with the knowledge and services to be good stewards of the planet. PGH EcoScapes is accredited by Phipps Botanical Conservancy for Sustainable Landcare, and adheres to the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) standards for the design and maintenance of Ecological Landscapes.  By choosing an organic care program for your yard, you will help reduce emissions and polutents from our shared environment, while creating a healthy living space to enjoy with your family and friends.

-David McPeak

The equipment used by most landscapers substantially contributes to air pollution. A recent study conducted by the California EPA Air Resources Board found that operating the best-selling commercial lawn mower for one hour emits as much smog-forming pollution as driving a 2016 Toyota Camry about 300 miles – approximately the distance from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. For the best-selling commercial leaf blower, one hour of operation emits smog-forming pollution comparable to driving approximately 1100 miles - the distance from Pittsburgh to New Orleans.

PGH Eco Scapes wants to change the norm by utilizing electric and manual landscaping equipment. We get the job done without emitting needless pollutants into the air, and reduce noise pollution at the same time.

Water is our most precious natural resource. According to EPA Estimates, 90 million American households dump nearly 80 million tons of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers onto their yards every year. much of these will find their way into our streams, rivers and oceans by way of runoff.

PGH Eco Scapes evaluates the condition of your soil and then uses sustainable products and methods to rebuild and strengthen its natural ecology. By doing so, we prevent the need to use synthetic additives and keep them from entering the water system

Take a course in good water and air; and in the eternal youth of Nature you may renew your own. Go quietly, alone; no harm will befall you.
-John Muir
